Apart from the regular OTTs, people of science, technology, and history are much interested in CuriosityStream – a platform having curated videos and documentaries of such events. It has grown significantly over the years and now stands with over 16 million paid subscribers as per its Q1 2021 earnings call.
Apart from audience success, the platform has also reported the latest quarterly revenue of $9.9 million, up from $7.5 million in Q1 2020. The latest success comes from introducing new titles like Ancient Engineering, Ancient Yellowstone, Breakthrough: Perseverance Rover Countdown to Impact, Nature Through Her Eyes, and the Legends of Speed.
Announcing the results, Clint Stinchcomb, President, and CEO of CuriosityStream, said, “The first quarter of 2021 kicks off a strong start to the year. We’ve never been in a better position at the beginning of the year, with $178 million in cash and investments, 80% growth in direct subscribers, and 90% visibility into 2021 revenue.”
Besides this, he also announced the acquisition of One Day University, a service that houses engaging talks and lectures from renowned professors in over 150 colleges in the US. According to Stinchcomb, this helps expand the “factual content proposition and business opportunities.” This acquisition should draw more subscribers to the platform as they’re highly inspiring.
